After Harry Redknapp’s immediate future was settled last week, Redknapp has settled back into what he does best, wheeling and dealing.

Lassana Diarra, dubbed the new Nicolas Anelka, has joined the south-coast club from Arsenal for a fee of £5.5million. Diarra has signed a 3½ year contract with Pompey, but the chances of him staying there for the entire duration of the agreement seem slim if this statement from him is anything to go by, ‘The people at Portsmouth know I will not spend my life at this club (…) if a really big club wants me, I know already that everything will go well..’

One midfielder in and another out as Matt Taylor finally moves away from Fratton Park as he joins Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee. This rumour had been floating round for sometime as football again demonstrates how quickly things can change. Taylor was a firm favourite at Fratton Park until this season and has struggled to break into the first-team, with the African signings proving to be good acquisitions.

Djimi Traore has moved to French club Rennes on a loan deal. The defender has played just 12 times since his arrival from Charlton Athletic just over a year ago.

With Newcastle United linked with a glut of players after Kevin Keegan’s arrival, it has been reported that he is interested in bringing Sol Campbell to St. James’ Park. (Sunday Express) However, it has also been reported on Sunday that Newcastle have unlimited cash to spend on signings and life long Toon fan Dimitar Berbatov wants to join for £35 million. Make of it what you will.

More sobering transfer news now and Redknapp has reportedly offered £1.5million for 17-year old promising defender Lee Hills, who currently plays for Crystal Palace. (The Sun) Meanwhile, a move that has gone through has seen Lucien Aubrey swap Lens for Portsmouth. The French defender has initially joined on loan; however a permanent move may occur in the near future. (The Express)

Two former Chelsea players are apparently returning to English football with Portsmouth. Juventus midfielder Tiago is currently out of favour with Claudio Ranieri and could move to Pompey for £8million. (The Sun) Mateja Kezman is another Chelsea flop looking to make amends for his lacklustre first spell in England, by joining Pompey from Turkish club Fenerbache. (Daily Mail)

Steve Sidwell, a current struggler in the Chelsea set-up, is looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge with Sunderland, Portsmouth and Everton all interested in the midfielder. (The Sun)

Another persistent rumour floating around Fratton Park is the transfer of Jermain Defoe from Tottenham Hotspur. According to The Mirror, Redknapp is trying to sign him by the end of the week. As of 19th January this has not occurred and with a number of clubs apparently interested in the England international, his destination is a still a mystery.

Finally, Real Mallorca’s Daniel Guiza is another Redknapp target. (News of the World) The £5million striker has scored 7 goals in 12 appearances since joining them in the summer from Getafe.
