Chelsea vs Arsenal: Head to He

Since Roman Abramovich's arrival at Chelsea, the west London club has had the finances to challenge the dominance of Arsenal and Manchester United and under Jose Mourinho exerted a dominance in this fixture. The appointment of Avram Grant last autumn has yet to result in big game wins and Arsenal were able to record their first competitive win in December 2007, the first since February 2004. Historically Arsenal have done well in this fixture with 58 league wins compared to Chelsea's 39 - although Chelsea do boss the games held at home.

Chelsea recent form
Chelsea are scoring goals, but the results in recent weeks have been patchy. Defeats to Spurs and Barnsley were real low points and the draw with Spurs in the week showed that there was some hangover from the earlier defeat. Chelsea do have a problem this season against the top sides and they need to solve that today if they aren't going to spend the rest of the league season trying to fend off Liverpool in a battle for third place.

Arsenal recent form
Arsenal have turned inconsistent in the last few weeks after a magnificent season had seen them through to odds-on favourites for the league title and strong challengers for the Champions' League. But four consecutive league draws has seen Manchester United push past them domestically, and Arsenal really could do with a win if their league season isn't going to fizzle out. Arsenal remain a tough side to beat and their only recent reverse was an FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford.
