With Sam Allardyce’s departure from Bolton Wanderers, there will naturally be doubts as to whether successor Sammy Lee will be able to keep the club among the upper echelons of the Premiership next season.

There are already doubts as to the ability of Lee to keep key players at the Reebok Stadium, with the likes of Nicolas Anelka, El-Hadji Diouf, Kevin Nolan and Tal Ben Haim all linked with moves away.  With the Bolton transfer budget having been one of the factors that allegedly led to Allardyce’s departure, Lee could struggle to replace any departures with like-for-like players.

Allardyce will certainly have a hefty budget with which to rebuild Newcastle United and it’s difficult to believe that there will be no improvement under his stewardship, given his renowned ability at getting the best from under-performing players.

It might be a long wait for a pay-out, but VCBet’s offer of 4-5 on Newcastle to finish above Bolton in next season’s Premiership does look a fair bet even at this stage.
