Transfer speculation: Djibril Cisse to Bolton Wanderers (About 4m)

The Sun (05.01.2008) has Djibril Cisse as Bolton's likely replacement for Nicolas Anelka if, and more likely when, the prolific Frenchman moves up the football transfer food chain.

Cisse was last in England at Anfield as a Marseille player; but was not a success at Liverpool after signing for 14m in the summer of 2004.  His overall goalscoring record for the Reds was good despite spending most of his time on the bench or recovering from injury.  Cisse started 42 games in his three seasons for Liverpool and appeared from the bench on another 36 occasions - scoring 24 goals.  A decent record, and even with all the short appearances still equated to 1 goal in 3 games.

He also scored an important goal in the FA Cup final of 2006 and the only goal of the match against Bolton a month earlier.

Cisse has great pace and is a goalscorer, and after a variety of spats at Marseille could be available for less than the 6m that Marseille paid Liverpool for him.  He would be a decent replacement for Anelka, if he stays fit.
