Transfer speculation: Didier Drogba to Barcelona (20m+)

The African Cup of Nations is clearly akin to a Jolly Boys Outing, as the moment he's away from Chelsea Didier Drogba starts telling people he wants to stay that way.  Holidays can have that effect on people, how many timeshares or holiday homes are bought on the back of a good week away?

The Guardian (16.01.2008) quote Drogba extensively talking about a wish to link up with Samuel Eto'o at Barca.  Lines like 'Barcelona just need to get the cheque book out' will be difficult to retract in coming days.

Also Drogba's reference to joining Eto'o because he plays for the team regardless of who is brought in sounds like a dig at the recruitment of Nic Anelka - who, like Shevchenko, is unlikely to complement Drogba's style.

In the immediate aftermath of Jose Mourinho's departure Didier Drogba made noises about leaving and although it would be a loss, he has been trying to find the right excuse for some time now - whether the excuse relates to tactics, formations or players.  At his age Chelsea can still expect a 20m+ pay-off and Anelka is a more than adequate replacement.
