Championship 2008-09 Preview - Watford

The Hornets looked set for a swift return to the Premiership in the early months of last season but, coinciding with the departure of Aidy Boothroyd’s assistant Keith Burkinshaw, their form dipped alarmingly over the latter months of the campaign and they only just managed to secure a play-off spot, where they suffered a humiliating drubbing at the hands of Hull City. Despite Boothroyd having promised a change in playing style, there is little cause for optimism ahead of the new season given that the club’s financial predicament has dictated the departure of a number of key players.
