Portsmouth: Premier League preview and prediction 2008/9

Portsmouth looked toothless in the Community Shield and it may take a few weeks for the Crouch and Defoe partnership to gel, but even if Harry Redknapp has to sell before he can buy he still has a good side - probably the best balanced squad he has ever had at Portsmouth. The defence looks a bit creaky and some super fast forwards could make serious inroads but overall Portsmouth will be entertaining and certainly capable of a few shocks.

Another 8th or 9th placed finish (as per the last two seasons) on 51-56 points seems likely.

TRANSFERS TO DATE Ins: Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Ben Sahar (Chelsea), Glen Little (Reading), Omar Alieu Koroma (Banjul Hawks), Younes Kaboul (Tottenham).

Outs: Sulley Muntari (Inter Milan), Omar Alieu Koroma (Norwich, loan), Joel Ward (Bournamouth, loan), Asmir Begovic (Yeovil, loan).

RECENT LEAGUE FINISHES Recent league position: 8-9-17-16-13 Recent league points: 57-54-38-39-45
