West Ham United vs Newcastle United: Premier League Prediction Panel 2008/9 - preview and predictions

West Ham are nothing if not entertaining this season.  With eight scored and eight conceded in four games you would expect to win money if you plumped on 'goals scored' with some regularity!  Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke will hope to win over the Hammers faithful quickly and will have looked at this game as something of a godsend; it will be no surprise if West Ham are set out to attack and run in a few goals today.

Newcastle are in a mess.  The opening games saw a point at Old Trafford, a win against Bolton and then a league cup win at Coventry.  Since when Arsenal beat Newcastle easily amidst rumours about Kevin Keegan; rumours that quickly solidified as frustrations boiled over.  Keegan's resignation has left the club in limbo and the abject defeat at home to Hull points to a team that everyone will want to play as soon as possible.  It is difficult to see who Newcastle will beat at the moment; even with a potent forward like Michael Owen available.

West Ham will expect to win very comfortably unless Newcastle find some well-hidden form.

Spread Betting
With West Ham likely to score goals today the goal rush market looks good value especially as more than one goal will return a profit, and the profit increases heavily for three or more goals.

Example: 3pts buy West Ham goal rush at 18
(0 goals=0pts, 1 goal = 10pts, 2 goals = 20pts, 3 goals = 33pts, 4 goals = 50pts, 5 goals = 70pts, 6+goals = 100pts)
0 goals: you lose 54pts
1 goals: you lose 24pts
2 goals: you win 6pts
3 goals: you win 45pts
4 goals: you win 96pts
5 goals: you win 156pts
6 goals: you win 246pts
