West Bromwich Albion vs Portsmouth: Premier League Prediction Panel 2008/9 - preview and predictions

West Brom’s inability to take their chances cost them dear again last week at Wigan but surely their fortune has to change at some point. Tony Mowbray has said he’s fed-up of winning plaudits for the team’s style of play and wants to pick up vital points and many believe it will come against Portsmouth today.

Tony Adams’s men may be a bit dispirited after crashing out of the UEFA Cup in midweek and their record at the Hawthorns recently is pretty poor. The Fratton Park have failed to beat the Baggies in the Midlands in their last six attempts so Tony Mowbray’s men must be confident of moving off the foot of the table, despite only picking up one point from a possible 24.

Albion have no new injury worries while Portsmouth sweat on the fitness of Younes Kaboul, Armand Traore and John Utaka. Lassana Diarra is definitely ruled out with an ankle injury.

If the Baggies win they will leapfrog Blackburn Rovers and pull themselves back into the survival race. Pompey meanwhile could climb one place to seventh.

There has only ever been two goalless draws between these two sides at the Hawthorns and I’d be very surprised if they drew a blank this afternoon.

West Bromwich Albion vs Portsmouth; Kick Off 3:00pm 07 Dec 2008
