Bolton start this game in a somewhat unaccustomed position of eight places above Liverpool, not that the bookies care - Bet365 has Liverpool around even money to win the game with Bolton 5/2.
Bolton are one of six sides that are still unbeaten at home, so should not go into this game with any kind of inferiority complex - indeed if Bolton show the clinical finishing they demonstrated when twice leading against Manchester United then they will expect to win. Kevin Davies remains ... well ... Kevin Davies, his style and energy generates shooting chances and now that Elmander is showing the ability that caused Bolton to spend £10m - most of the Nic Anelka transfer fee - to secure him there is a real goal threat about the Trotters.
If Liverpool will need to be solid to avoid conceding then they may sacrifice a forward player to achieve that solidity. But the Joe Cole conundrum continues; his form is a concern - but will Hodgson drop him? If Torres is fit then he will surely start, but Ngog looks a more likely goalscorer at the moment. Roy Hodgson's side are in the relegation zone with a quarter of the season gone - this would be a tough fixture in any season, so a win today would be something of a triumph and could lift the Reds into the top half of the table.
This promises to be a close game and I don't think there will be more than a goal in it - I do think both teams will score and a 2-2 draw is my prediction.
