Premier League Team of the Weekend: Week 3

Bookmark and Share

Well, what a weekend of football we've had? We've seen high scores, controversial calls, and Joey Barton finally leave Newcastle. And now we come to that time of the week where it is time to seperate the solid performers from the let downs.

For the first time this season, all 20 Premier League teams participated in league action, meaning that we have 20 teams to pick our best 11 from.

Here is our Team of the Week:

Goalkeeper: Tim Krul (Newcastle)

The young goalkeeper showed why Alan Pardew has kept so much faith in him this season with a string of top class saves, the pick of which being from a Danny Murphy header.

Right Back: Jose Bosingwa (Chelsea)

The Portuguese international once again makes the grade for Squarefootball's team of the week, marking another fantastic display with a simply brilliant 30 yard strike to open the scoring aganst Norwich.

Centre Back: Jonathan Woodgate (Stoke)

The ex-Tottenham defender gave Stoke some much needed organisation and structure this week as he helped guide the Potters to their second clean sheet in three games. He looked agile and strong against West Brom and is already forming a strong partnership with Ryan Shawcross.

Left Back: Chris Herd (Aston Villa)

The 22-year-old Australian was determined to shine this week as he made run after run up the flank, and played in crosses of real class. He could have also scored the winner for his team, but his bullet header had been tipped over the bar.

Right Midfield: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

The young England midfielder was strong and gave a mature performance against Bolton. Henderson showed his committment to his new team, pinging passes across the pitch as well as opening his account for the Reds with a strong finish.

Centre Midfield: Charlie Adam (Liverpool)

The Scotsman is looking like a shrewd signing by Liverpool, as the ex-Blackpool talisman bossed the centre of the park all afternoon. His well taken corner led to Skrtel's goal and then wrapped up the day by blasting home his first, and Liverpool's third, to take all three points. A solid performance.

Centre Midfield: Samir Nasri (Manchester City)

Nasri shrugged off the Tottenham boo-boys this week to give an inspired display in his first game for City. He provided three magnificant assists for goals and is already on the same wavelength as his team-mates. He could yet prove to be the signing that really sparks City's title push.

Left Midfield: Ashley Young (Manchester United)

Two fantastic goals from Young aided United to an 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal this week. The English winger has been consistently superb for his new team and his link up play with the rest of the side has been pure brilliance. He was directly involved of five of the goals against Arsenal, and appears to fit United like a glove.

Centre Forward: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

What a performance by this man! Now on 152 Premier league goals for United, the striker scored a fantastic hat-trick, including two delicious curling free kicks. A new found confidence in Rooney, and he looks like a man who's really enjoying his football.

Centre Forward: Franco Di Santo (Wigan)

Di Santo looks as if he might now be fulfilling some of his promise, after two fantastic goals against QPR. He looked strong and composed as he led his team to victory and doubled his Premier League goal tally in one afternoon.

Centre Forward: Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

Another week in our Team of the Week for Dzeko, who is fast becoming a real threat for most goals this season. He scored four against Tottenham, the pick of which a wonderfully struck 25-yard curler with his left foot after a lovely exchange of passes with Gareth Barry. Here's some advice: Get this Bosnian striker into your fantasy football team now!

So our team of the week is:

Bosingwa, Woodgate, Herd

Henderson, Adam, Nasri, Young

Rooney, Di Santo, Dzeko

Do you agree with our team of the week? If not, why not post your alternative below. We'd love to hear from you!
