Manchester United: Ronaldo or Bale - Who will Moyes sign?

Manchester United have been linked with big-money moves for former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Tottenham's man-of-the-moment Gareth Bale in recent weeks, but who is the best option for David Moyes?

Manchester United are a club in transition. They have brought in David Moyes to replace the almost irreplaceable Sir Alex Ferguson. And if reports are true, the board will support their new manager with at least one blockbuster signing.

RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo is one reported target. The Portuguese superstar, a former Ballon D’Or winner while at United, has always been a fan favourite. A cash-plus-player deal has been touted, with the cash amount reportedly amounting to £60m along with Nani or Javier Hernandez. Madrid, specifically president Florentino Perez, has publicly declared his intent to hang on to his marquee player, so this may turn out to be a major transfer tussle.

Another report suggests that the United board are willing to sanction an £85m deal for Tottenham Hotspur superstar Gareth Bale. This deal would shatter the one that took Ronaldo from United to Madrid in 2009, and would be a world record. Interest from Manchester City, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs with huge transfer budgets may be major hurdles.

Bale scoresBut lets be fair. United cannot be expected to have a transfer budget enough for both of these players, so which one will it be? Ronaldo seems to be the prime target. United fans too, would eagerly welcome the prodigal son from Madrid. But no-one can deny that Gareth Bale has in recent years made the transition from pacy winger to a true world class performer in the Premier League, a transition Ronaldo himself went through at United.

So who will be THE marquee signing of David Moyes’s first season at Old Trafford? Do they turn to their former club hero? Or the Welsh superstar who may be the next Ryan Giggs? Only time will tell, and every United fan will have their own opinion about it.

Calling all Manchester United fans: If it's a straight shoot out between Bale and Ronaldo, who would you love to see in your starting XI come August? Whatever your view, we'd love to hear from you.
